Runswick Bay, Yorkshire Coast

Runswick Bay, Yorkshire Coast

POSTPONED

led by Richard Maddra

This visit is an additional date, by popular demand following the 27th April trip to Deepgrove Wyke, which is currently too dangerous to revisit (see report later in the Circular). This modified version of the trip will start at 9am in the public car park on the slope just above the bay. It will examine the stratigraphy and ammonite fauna of the Mulgrave Shale Member and Alum Shale Member of the Whitby Mudstone Formation. The ammonite fauna includes members of the Dactylioceratidae and Hildoceratidae and isolated specimens of Cornaptychus. Jet, Phylloceras, Gyrosteus bone and ichthyosaur bone have also been found at the location. At the start of the visit, examples of hand specimens will be shown and discussed.

Please wear appropriate footwear, outdoor clothing and a packed lunch.

Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
