Kirkdale Cave 200: Lost beasts of the North FIELD TRIP

A Yorkshire Philosophical Society Bicentenary Event with Yorkshire Geological Society and Yorkshire Fossil Festival supported by “The Curry Fund” (GA)


13th March 2022, 10.30 am until 3.30 pm



Following on from Saturday’s symposium will be a field trip to examine the Upper Jurassic geology and building stones of the area around Kirkdale led by Paul Hildreth, Paul Thornley and Liam Herringshaw. The trip will include a visit to the site of Kirkdale cave.

The itinerary will include Spaunton Quarry (Coral Rag and Upper Calcareous Grit), Hodge Beck (Yedmandale Member), Kirkdale Cave (Malton Oolite and Coral Rag) and St. Gregory’s Minster (various building stones).

Conditions are easy to moderate with good car parking facilities.

A reminder that £5 is payable on the day which includes a contribution to St Gregory’s Church funds. (YGS members may register for free)
