Coal Measures ‘outlier’

Yorkshire Geology Month

Huddersfield Geology Group

Field Trip

by Ailsa Burrows (HGG)

A walk of just over 3 miles around the Coal Measures ‘outlier’ into the Millstone Grit series of Stainland, near Elland, which will finish at the RIGS-designated quarry of Eaves Top, which used the Rough Rock.

Meet at Woodlands Activity Centre off Bacup Road, Todmorden

Note that there are no public toilet facilities in the village and you may wish to arrive early and avail yourself of beer/tea/coffee and facilities at the 1885 pub adjacent to the car park.   Please also note that there is very rough ground (uncompacted hard core) and slippy/wet conditions on a steep descent into the Holywell Brook valley and some rough ground along the quarry-side footpath.  Sticks may be advisable for those with unsure footing. If you’re interested in coming please contact HGGchair@gmail.com
