Yorkshire Fossil Festival

A weekend of activities and events at Whitby Museum

June 10th-11th

10:00 - 16:00 each day

In its 9th year the Yorkshire Fossil Festival is on the move!

The festival will be hosted by Whitby to celebrate the bicentenary of the Whitby Museum.

As usual you can expect a range of stalls, activities and talks from Universities, Museums and Societies.

So far confirmed events and activities include:

  • Dr Susie Maidment (Natural History Museum) with a talk on Stegosaurs

  • Fossil hunting duo and stars of the BBC’s “Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard” Nevil and Sally Hollingworth.

The Saturday and Sunday programme includes:

  • The Rock Showman

  • The Palaeontological Association

  • Fossils in t’ Hills

  • Sheffield University

  • the Dinosaur Isle Museum

  • And of course the Yorkshire Geological Society!

Any member willing to help or contribute to the YGS stall should contact the General Secretary. Items that draw in the general public and stimulate conversation and interest are particularly welcome. John Knight will have his trusty, and very popular, rock-cutting and polishing equipment on site and there will be a selection of the Society’s publications
