This year’s AGM will be an extra special event presenting excellent networking opportunities!

This year our annual address will be given by Dr Karen Hanghøj (Director for the British Geological Survey) on Geology for a Sustainable Future: Challenges and Opportunities.

We are also pleased to welcome some of our recent grant winners to present a poster session on their YGS funded research and outreach activities.

Titles include:

Dr Adam Booth (University of Leeds): Touching the Past: tactile technologies to enrich the communication of geoarchaeological heritage at Barnsley Museum.

Dr Ed Garrett (University of York): The sedimentary imprint of the ~8.1ka Storegga tsunami in Northumberland, northern England.

Dr Liam Herringshaw (Independent): Stratum Young: Engaging Schools With Yorkshire Geology.

Dr Samuel Mitchell (University of Bristol): The Middle Hope Volcanics: Reconstructing the eruptive history and paleoenvironment of a Carboniferous marine volcanic sequence


Dr Jack Salisbury (University of Durham): Sulphur isotope stratigraphy of drill cuttings and the correlation of Permian-Triassic evaporites.

Jennifer Taylor (University of Durham): Palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of a fjord catchment NW Scotland, UK since the Last Glacial Maximum: A multigeochemical approach.

Francesca Warren (University of Durham): Generation of a long-term carbon, nitrogen and sulphur isotope curve of the Early Jurassic palaeocean from Yorkshire: a record of the carbon cycle and redox conditions.

Rory White (University of Sheffield): UAV Photogrammetry of Glacial Collapse Features at Oberaargletscher, Switzerland (August 2022)

Schedule

13.00 – 13.45 Coffee/tea and mince pies in Headingley Breakout

14.00 – 15.30 AGM and Awards (including Phillips and Bisat medals) in the Cookridge Suite

15.30 – 16.15 Poster session provided by recent YGS grant winners, also tea/coffee with mince pies in Headingly Breakout

16.20 – 17:30 Annual Address to be presented by Dr Karen Hanghøj (Director for the British Geological Survey)

17:30 – 18.00 Poster session provided by recent YGS grant winners

18.00 – 20.30* President’s Reception in the Jacobean Lobby followed by the Annual Buffet Dinner in the Jacobean Room

The buffet will consist of:

Savoury Rice

Salad

Desserts

*Attendance at the President’s reception and dinner is by ticket only, please contact Paul Hildreth (secretary@yorksgeolsoc.org.uk) to reserve a place. Tickets are £28pp.
