The talk will cover aspects of the Whin Sill’s contact metamorphism as assessed from samples from boreholes drilled during site investigation work for the Cow Green dam in Upper Teesdale. Contrasts will be made with previous work on the aureole character.  Based on this comparison it is argued that the presently accepted model of the sill being sourced from the Whin dykes is not a viable model.

He has published over 60 papers, and given over 50 conference presentations in this field. He became Project Leader, with Dr R.E. Bevins, (1989-93) on the International Geological Correlation Programme, Project 294 (Very Low Grade Metamorphism).
