PROGRAMME


10:15am:

Assemble and register in the car park of Mr. Moo’s Ice Cream Parlour, just south of Skipsea village. Please use the overflow car park which is furthest from the road.

10:30am - 12:00pm:

Walk to the cliff section at Skipsea Withow led by Dr. Laura Eddey and Dr. Jim Leary to examine Pleistocene deposits and a later in-filled former mere. These in-fill deposits have recently produced some most interesting finds. There may also be time to discuss the provenance of erratics that can be found on the beach at this location.

12:15pm - 1:00pm:

Opportunity to have an ice cream lunch at Mr. Moo’s or a refreshment break.

1:00pm - 2:30pm:

Transfer to Skipsea Castle for a guided visit to this impressive Norman motte and Bailey castle, which dates back to before 1086 and is among the first raised in Yorkshire. Led by Dr. Jim Leary and Dr. Elaine Jamieson.

Please note - there is no formal parking at Skipsea Castle so please park considerately on the roadside.
