Geoscience Communications Fund

Got a story to tell? We might be able to help you tell it…..

Aims & Eligibility

The YGS Geoscience Communications Fund provides grants to individuals or small groups to support geoscience communications work with a preferred, but not exclusive, connection to the North of England - this may be by birth, education, affiliation to an organisation in the region or residence in the region, or knowledge about the geology and landscape of the region itself. The scope of eligible geoscience communication is broad, and the Society anticipates making at least one award per year to applicants from small museum or charitable organisations, or who are working independently of formal supervision and financial support, especially where this may facilitate public engagement.

Previous award winners:

Liam Herringshaw (Yorkshire Fossil Festival and Hidden Horizons) – Stratum Young.

Joe Simmons (Static Flow Productions) – Vestiges short film.

Adam Booth (University of Leeds) - Touching the Past: tactile technologies to enrich the communication of geoarchaeological heritage at Barnsley Museum

Funding Available

Awards up to £2000 will normally be made on each occasion, though the Society may consider larger awards in cases of exceptional merit. Funding may be used to augment existing projects, but applications must demonstrate that the award is supporting a specific project or activity that is not otherwise funded by a grant from another source.

Funds will not be awarded retrospectively for expenditure already incurred.
